Randolph Sesson - Managing Partner

Randy Sesson is the Managing Partner of Blackbird and focuses on the financial advisory side of the Firm. Randy is a highly experienced London-based investment banker who has worked for Goldman Sachs (1989-2006), Morgan Stanley (1984-1987, 2006-2012) and Evercore (2012-2015) in New York, Hong Kong and London. He has advised on transactions in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, public and private equity raising, and debt financing, totalling over $40 billion in value over the course of his thirty-year career. He is noted for his superior industry knowledge and contacts, and his unwavering desire to provide well-thought out and honest and unbiased advice to his clients. Randy received his B.A. from Yale University and his M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Peter Smith - Operating Partner

Peter Smith brings a wealth of knowledge in all things aviation, and has had an extremely successful and lengthy career as an operating executive in both the airline and aviation services fields. Peter started his career as an executive in the airline industry, with stints at both British Caledonian (1978-1987) and British Airways (1987-1988) in the planning, commercial and marketing areas. He was also the CEO of Air Asia (1994-1995). In the aviation services field, Peter was the CEO of Menzies Aviation Group (1995-2004) which focuses on airline ground handling. Peter sits on a number of boards including Flybe (non-executive director 2004-2016) and British Airways World Cargo (2004-current). Lastly, he has been an investor and provided advice to both companies and transaction sponsors in the airport technology space and the acquisition of airports. Peter has a BA from University of Southampton and a M.Phil from the University of London.

 

John Ormerod - Financial Advisory Partner

John Ormerod has been involved with the equity and debt financing of ships since 1978. He started his career  as a chartered accountant in 1969 with a predecessor firm of Ernst & Young, and became a banker in 1975 with Hambros Bank. John later spent time at Bankers Trust (1980-1985) and Nordic Bank (1985-1990), originating and executing loans to shipping clients. In 1990 John formed his own shipping financial advisory firm, working with clients to structure bank, bond and mezzanine finance, debt swaps, equity investments via Norwegian KS schemes, tax leases and to provide general corporate finance advice. John is a graduate of Eton College and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

Ausaf Abbas - Coombe Advisors

Coombe Advisors is a partner firm of Blackbird. The firm was founded by Ausaf Abbas to provide strategic, business and financial advice to a network of clients and associated businesses, with a focus on strategic and operational issues in the wealth management industry and emerging growth companies.

Ausaf had a 25-year career with Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley, in increasingly senior management positions across investment banking and private wealth management. With his broad international experience, including 13 years living and working in Hong Kong, India, Singapore and Japan,  he established Coombe Advisors to advance his advisory and consultancy partners and projects.

Ausaf offers objective and impartial advice and intervention through a calm and reflective approach to clients and associates. He assists stakeholders in evaluating their strategic challenges and options, through to advising management on executing business and financial plans.
